Private Loans...

Nursing Students General Students

Hello. My question is one that has to do with private loans for education. I have already used federal assistance for my first Bachelor's degree (non nursing) so not sure how much more if any federal assistance I'll get for pursuing a nursing degree, most likely a BSN or ADN for starters. Soo, for a private loan, have any of you secured a loan with a past bankruptcy? Like not too distant past? If you were able to, what type of degree were you pursuing?

Thanks for your responses.

If you would rather PM me that is fine too.

Funny this thread is here. Last week, by brother was trying to secure a private school loan for nursing. He applied with PNC bank and was denied. His bankruptcy was, I think, five years ago. Since then, he has purchased a new car, house, and has credit cards again. Still would not lend to him. I co-singed the loan for him. After 24 months of on-time payments, I will apply to be released from the loan.

I am not sure about any other banks because he only applied to one. If you can find a co-signer, do it. Most banks have the co-signer release after so many on-time payments made.

Thanks so much. How nice of you to help our your bro!:redbeathe

Hello, I don't really know about the bankruptcy aspect, but I am trying to get a private student loan for the summer semester and have been doing some research. I know I need a co-signer but my mom got in trouble with a credit card a few years ago which affected my dad as well and I'm wondering if he is going to get approved as a co-signer. I'm praying he does!

But I heard from my financial aid office that Chase and Citi banks are a little easier on the credit checks. I checked both out...Citi has a little bit of a lower interest rate. Hope the info helps!!

Thanks. I must admit that I threatened his life if a payment was missed J
