Please help! I always get stuck with Pitocin calculations :(

The health care providers orders include stat oxytocin 10 units in each liter of normal saline to infuse at 40 milliunits/minute. The health care provider also prescribes methylergonovine maleate IM to be given immediately.

Oxytocin is labeled 10 units/mL

How many mL of oxytocin should the nurse draw up to inject into the 100 mL bag of normal saline?

The oxytocin must be administer via IV infusion pump

What is the flow rate needed to deliver 40 mU/min?

I get confused too. I want to follow this thread and I hope I can learn!

I'd be happy to help, but why don't you show me what you have so far so we can see where it goes wrong? Hint: Eliminate distractors from the question first and make sure you know all the conversion factors prior to starting to do the math.
