PDA software for nurses and students

hey ,

i tried to send this earlier, but of course i got kicked off my computer just as i was sending.... technology :rolleyes: ... so you may get this twice.... but anyways.. here i go again...

we have these required references we need to get for classes at Drexel u. they've been really helpful to me, so hopefully you can get some use out of them too...

oh, and we had to get davis' drug guide too so i don't know much about other ones out there... but, go to the skyscape link and search for more drug guides.. they have a lot of stuff on their site, so i'm sure you'll find something useful there....

thanks i am realy interested can you tell me if the davis drug guide has interactions on it ? i wanna check these out and get some cool stuff i got a new sdell modell 400mgh 64 meg i can;t wait till it comes in i love new toys !!!!

Hi, I just wanted to chime in. I recently used Handango.com to buy Lippencott drug guide and Rncrashcart....b/c of a computer "malfunction" I was charged 5 times!!! yes, 5 times!!! (5 x $70) Despite communication with their online customer service (no phone c.s. figures :angryfire ) and an angry phone call to their sales dept. I have only been refunded once (for one extra payment). This site is not customer friendly, do not use it. Now I'm buying all my PDA software from bookstores (mostly B&N).

I use ePocrates on my desktop and PDA. It will check for interactions for up to thirty medications and herbals. It lacks some of the information that you will find under the heading "Nursing Implications" in the hardcopy of Davis's Drug Guide, so I haven't been able to divorce myself of the book. It's a major assest to have ePocrates on the PDA when I'm passing medications during clinicals. You can get a trial version. Here is a URL for some PDA applications (free):

i just checked and yes davis' does have interactions in it and a lot more, including contraind/precautions, adv. reaction/side effects, and so on.... i haven't needed to use it too much yet -- i have pharmacology in the next two terms so i'll be definitely using it a lot then...

i bought all of my references from skyscape and personally have had no problems with their site... if you go to this site link below and type "Drexel" in the promotion code text box, you might be able to get the 20% or so off on your purchases that i got through my school.. it's worth a try... i don't know if your school offers discounts on pda software.. in my program it's mandatory to have them so they have negotiated discounts with certain places..

My preceptor has PEPID. I just signed up for a 10 day free online trial to see if I can navigate through it easy. Seems to have a lot of info and easy to navigate.

I have another question for the nurses using their PDAs on the floor. What kind of case do you use? The belt-clip ones won't hold a heavier PDA on a pair of scrub pants, not if you're running all day. Does anyone have a lead on a case that you can wear around the neck on a lanyard? I thought I had heard about one called a Joey, but I can't find anything on it.
