Online Microbiology

Nursing Students General Students

Hi

I was hoping someone who has experienced taking microbiology would be able to help me weigh my options for taking it this fall. I am a full time student who will be graduating with a non nursing degree soon and I am taking all of the prerequisites for acceptance to an ABSN program. This summer I took A&P 1&2 and Chemistry. Now all I pretty much have to take is Microbiology. Rockland County Community College is offering a class with an online lecture and seated lab. I want to be able to balance work and my other classes but learn as much as possible. Is it a good idea to take this class or should I try and entirely seated class.

Thanks for the help.

I took a fully online micro class through my university. Yes FULL online, I picked up cultures and the supplies to make the cultures at home through the term like bacteria and lab supplies and kept them in my fridge (they where attenuated so they couldn't cause disease) and even made my own incubator! The lab part was the easy part, doing the lectures online was difficult. It was complex stuff and reading textbook alone wasn't enough for me to understand the info. I ended up meeting with the professor once a week to go over the material at her office hours.

This was about 4 years ago I was also only 19 or 20 and hand not developed the study habits needed for online courses! But I did manage an A and am in a BSN program now, it's just a harder way of doing it I think. Good luck!

Just finished a summer session of online micro. It wasn't bad at all. Depends entirely on the instructor. Mine audio recorded her powerpoints, which was so nice since we had no lecture. I managed a 96%, so no complaints at all.

Took mine online. ..it was worth it..
