Specializes in Hey I'm now an RN!!.

i was just wondering, does anyone know the requirements for lpn licensure in nys? i went to the nys website, but it doesn't mention total clinical hours needed just that you need to be schooled for 9 months. does anyone know specifics on this or where i could find them?? i am enrolled in an rn program but would like to gain the extra experience as an lpn, and i am not sure how much completion of my program i would need. thanks!! :p

you may have to call the bon in ny. i know each state is different, but in my state, you can't sit for the lpn exam unless you have completed 3 semesters of an rn program, because you do need the clinical time, in addition to some of the rotations, such as mental health, that may not be offered until later on in the program.

we are, however, able to become lna's after the first semester. after we pass our final in fundamentals, the nursing director at our college will sign the paperwork stating we've passed and we can then mail it into the state, with the fee, for a license. i'm going to do that, so i can maybe work per diem as an lna during vacations and weekends.
