Nursing programs

Nursing Students General Students

Hello!Currently I am a freshman in college and realized that I would love to become a nurse. My university however does not allow their current students to transfer in to their program. I was wondering if there were any universities or colleges that anyone knows that accepts transfer students into their nursing program. Preferably in new England. Thanks!

I think you may have to check around for each facility may have their own requirments. I have not heard of any that accepts direct transfers as there are waiting lists at all of them......I did however, find a link to all nursing schools in the US it's not organized by state :cool:. Many years ago I tried to tx after my husband relocated. I found the general thought was ". You couldn't possibly have learned any at the other school - you'll have to start over". I thought it would be easy with a 3.8 but it wasn't. Hind site is 20/20 it probably would have been better to get a small apt and finish it out. Instead I cut my nose off to spite my face a had another child. I did eventually go back and got my RN. Good luck to you. It was worth it!

I am a transfer student into Nursing. I transferred into my Sophomore year after taking most of my pre-reqs at a community college. Not all schools will let you do that, but there are some that absolutely will. If you are in the Philadelphia area I know that University of Pennsylvania, Gwynedd Mercy College and University, Widener University and Jefferson all take outside transfers into Nursing. Many of the other schools in my area will also take in transfers. the problem with them is that you can't really compete when they take in all their own students who transferred out of bio and require you to do 2 semesters there in order to even apply to Nursing.

Regardless of where you decide to look be aware of a few things:

1)While you may get credit for the pre-req courses such as English, A & P, etc that they may not accept all the credits you've earned.

2)You also may end up being there longer than you want to be if the college allows transfers, but you don't have all or the minimum pre-reqs required to start nursing courses or clinical.

3)Some places will not even consider you until you are clinical ready and have fulfilled all their pre-reqs.
