Hi all! I am new here, but have been lurking and reading some of the funny nursing and nursing assistant stories!

Right now, I am in my third week of clinicals as a NA. I love it so much, but still don't know if working in LTC or a NH is something I really want to do right now. I know the pickings are slim right now, so I should be thankful for any job I am offered, but I was hoping to get in at the hospital into L&D (wishful thinking, I KNOW!). A friend of mine is a CNA in the operating room and loves it.

I plan on continuing into the RN program at my school. People always ask me why I want to be a nurse because I have an EXTREME fear of vomit. But I have been slowly trying to expose myself to it and try to control the panic attacks. A few weeks ago I ended up in the ER myself, and while in the waiting room a young man next to me was violently vomiting into an emesis basin. I thought for a second about booking it right the heck out of there and just dealing with my pain at home. But I remained cool, and FORCED myself to actually watch him be sick. And I didn't have a panic attack! *pats self on back*

So that is my story! I look forward to chatting with others who are in school right now, as well as seasoned nurses who can impart some of their wisdom on me!

Welcome!

If you want to get into L&D, better get used to emesis! It certainly happens! :)

Good luck with work and schooling!

It's great that you are trying to desensitize yourself to your fear! You can do anything you set your mind to! Welcome to AN!
