NCTC 2016 Fall Entrance Exam

I am taking the Kaplan entrance exam for entrance into NCTC's (Gainesville, TX) ADN nursing program next mon the (June). I have gotten the Kaplan nursing entrance study guide, Math for Nurses by Kaplan, and A&P for dummies (for review) to study with. I have done both practice tests in the Kaplan study guide and have been going over everything and am starting to get very discouraged and overwhelmed. Can anyone that has taken my school's entrance exam tell me if the study guide is a good reference for the math and reading/writing? Similarities or more/less difficult? Any advice at all? I've got about exactly a month to study and review as much as possible before I test, just needing to narrow my focus and know I'm on the right track!

I wish I could remember what subjects were on the ADN entrance exam. What I do remember is being shocked at the cutoff score for my class's entry: 75%. I believe there were 60 students to start. That cutoff depends on how many people apply and how well they do on the entrance exam. In contrast, the cutoff for my LVN online (hybrid) program was 95% for a starting class size of 10, so your mileage may vary.

I do remember that I was a little foggy on some of the A&P questions, and one of the verbal sections was omitted entirely. The math involved is kitchen math. Know your conversions from grams to ounces and inches to centimeters.

The most important thing you can do in my humble opinion is practice good test hygiene to minimize anxiety. Eat a good breakfast and sleep well the night before. Do not study the day before the test. Try not to worry too hard, and you will do much better than if you fret the whole time. This is mostly a high-school level test except for the science.

I can't comment on the study guide, because I didn't study for the entrance exam. I scored a 92... There may have been two parts to the score, but my lowest was 92.

Here is a great thread on entrance exams that should be much more helpful than my response! https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/the-entrance-exams-1052863.html

I also highly recommend changing your allnurses name to not include your real name.
