  1. You can do it. It may not be easy but it can be done. My school was pretty strict about absences. One classmate made it through with her pregnancy and postpartum needs. Another classmate gave birth to a baby who needed a lot of medical care and she was not able to finish in our program. Call them so you can make your informed decision on how to move forward. Ask them what their policy is on laying out a semester in case anything comes up related to your personal life. They can't tell you not to be pregnant but they can speak in terms of accessibility accommodation and absence policy.
  2. I have seen RN1 and RN2 in job ads which is shorthand for the years of experience. For that employer, RN2s have over 4 years of experience in that specialty.
  3. I also highly recommend changing your allnurses name to not include your real name.
  4. I wish I could remember what subjects were on the ADN entrance exam. What I do remember is being shocked at the cutoff score for my class's entry: 75%. I believe there were 60 students to start. That cutoff depends on how many people apply and how well they do on the entrance exam. In contrast, the cutoff for my LVN online (hybrid) program was 95% for a starting class size of 10, so your mileage may vary. I do remember that I was a little foggy on some of the A&P questions, and one of the verbal sections was omitted entirely. The math involved is kitchen math. Know your conversions from grams to ounces and inches to centimeters. The most important thing you can do in my humble opinion is practice good test hygiene to minimize anxiety. Eat a good breakfast and sleep well the night before. Do not study the day before the test. Try not to worry too hard, and you will do much better than if you fret the whole time. This is mostly a high-school level test except for the science. I can't comment on the study guide, because I didn't study for the entrance exam. I scored a 92... There may have been two parts to the score, but my lowest was 92. Here is a great thread on entrance exams that should be much more helpful than my response! https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/the-entrance-exams-1052863.html
  5. I watched my grades carefully. Once I passed the point of no A in one class, I adjusted its priority. I am happy with my As and Bs. Celebrate!
  6. Go back a step and don't drop your unit labels. If you keep your labels on, you should be able to see which steps still need to be done to get what you need.
  7. Hi Irish_Mist, I am a first semester student in the transition program at NCTC. I also have a previous bachelor's in an unrelated field and intend to get my BSN. I am only one class short of the BSN prereqs and will have that completed by the time I get my ADN. That will leave 30 nursing hours for the BSN through one of NCTC's partner schools if all goes to plan. The most important factor for me in choosing NCTC was value. The second was flexibility, which the online hybrid track seems to offer. That option is for students with LVN certification. If I were able to take off work for a year and could afford four or five times the tuition, I might have considered an accelerated BSN program. I probably would not have ultimately chosen one because I am the type to build confidence over time, and time off from employment in the nursing field would also have an effect. All that said, I hope this board helps you decide what's best for your situation!
  8. You are not too old for martial arts. My father took up aikido in his late 40s and took it beyond the first degree of black belt. Yoga is a great idea too. Do what you need to do to avoid burnout. Good health to you!
  9. This reminds me of the rap lyrics, "I've been spending hundreds since they had small faces!" I started in the nursing field when Steve Jobs was still alive. Osama bin Laden, Moammar Gadhafi, and Kim Jong-il were still around. The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant was still intact because Japan had not yet been struck by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake (remember that tsunami? ~20,000 fatalities). Prince William was still unmarried. I don't name any significant events in the medical world because I've only been a nurse since 2011, and not that much has changed! I only wanted to play along...
  10. Search Facebook groups for NCTC ADN Spring 2016. It is a closed group, so request access. One of your classmates or fellow nursing students will approve your request once your name is matched up with the class rosters.
  11. I have a BA in an unrelated field. LVN since 2011, expected to complete ADN/RN in 2016. Hoping BSN completion in 2017.
  12. I would personally avoid a boundary stomper like that at all costs. I would also never stick around in a moms group where I am disrespected like that. Keep the friends, lose the passive aggressive boundary stompers.
  13. If anyone has the assignments for this week can you please post them or message/email me? I am just reading through the first three chapters of fundamentals of nursing until I can access the nursing group on Angel. I think I saw Exercise #1 on the math schedule.
  14. Email the program director to request your name be added to the access list for the ANGEL student nursing group. As a reminder, allnurses.com does not allow the use of (professor/faculty/third party personal) names on this site.
  15. Ooh, it comes with 900+ free questions and the paid version comes with 1500. Thanks again!
