Does anyone know of any good books to help with math calculations for IV. I have such the hardest time when I am asked to do questions regarding

mg/kg/hr. I enjoy math but this math for some reason I can do it one day but the next time I can't I don't know what is going on with me!! I have the hardest time calculating Math IV meds!!

Any help would be of great help!! I just hope to survive the next 8 months and counting!! Second and last year of Nursing school!!!

I have a pretty good workbook-type manual that helps alot with IV and dosage calculations - it's called Dimensional Analysis for Meds (2nd ed.) by A. Curren. I'm sure there are others around too in like Barnes and Noble. :) Good luck with your math!

btw - here's a link to some search results with nursing math books: http://www.delmarlearning.com/browse_BooksSoftware.asp?ctype=Books&catlvl=CAT5&cat1=56&cat2=417&cat3=2326&cat4=4802&cat5=0

I bought one called Math for Meds several years ago and still refer to it now and then. If you search online you will find some instructors have posted math problems. Try http://www.about.com

i have probs with that as well. i did great last year and then when i was doing an NCLEX prep CD i totally forgot how to do it.

i would recommend making a flash card type thing. either have a card with the formula to do it and/or make several example questions. i think the key is doing it over and over again. i thought i wouldn't need this info but on the labor and delivery floor and mother baby units as well as others that don't use pumps you have to adjust the flow rate.

hope this helps

I would not spend any money on math books! Everything you need is easy to find on internet. I used multiple sites and practice questions and printed copies of conversion table and formulas. Practice makes perfect. After practicing too many times, many med calculations can be done in the head- they just make sense :) Try these sites. Good luck!

Second and last year of nursing school here myself...at our school, "Dosage Calculations Made Insanely Easy" was popular. There's also "Pharmacology Made Insanely Easy" and "Nursing Made Insanely Easy"
