I am so excited to start nursing school

I recently got into the TBSN program at Mount Saint Mary's University ! ive been told for the past two years as a pre-nursing student that I was not going to make it. It is kind of sad how my own mentors would make me feel like i was a failure even though I had a pretty high GPA. They made everyone feel like only 4.0 students get into the program and I would explain to them that I have a 3.7 and they would just say well there's always changing your major as an option or whatever BUT FORGET ALL THAT because its over! I am finally moving onto the BSN program. I honestly am just so excited, I do not think I have ever been this excited to start school anymore. Especially since my campus overlooks Los angeles and the beach which is just breathtaking. I do not know for sure if I know anyone else that made it into the program yet but i will find out next month at orientation! They recentyl emailed us our info packet including where to buy our scrubs and to make sure we have all of our immunizations up to date and it just all feels so exciting. is that weird? when I was getting one of my shots the nurse was like I have never seen someone excited to get a shot. If anyone is even reading this can you give me some advice for school? What to expect and maybe what are some good study habits. I start in about a month and a half and want to be prepared, the worst thing that can happen to me at this point is to fail out of nursing shcool which is not an option.

Congrats!! I recently got accepted in my university's BSN program as well. I'm so excited too..I've seriously never been so excited for school. I'm nervous for the future but really interested in the ability to learn more everyday! My mentors of the application process were also very negative. One guy would specifically tell students to not even consider replying. It's an extremely competitive program.

I feel the same way. I'm going to community college of Philadelphia starting fall 2016. I didn't expect to get in because everyone kept saying how competitive it is. I had 7 points out of nine and I got a 70% on my Kaplan which was the minimum. I swear its a miracle I got in. I cried when I got my acceptance letter. Ive wanted to be a nurse all my life, and I'm so happy I'm finally starting my journey. I have had so many people put me down and tell me I couldn't do it, it feels amazing to prove those people wrong. I had a baby at 16 in high school .... so you can understand why people thought nursing wasn't in my reach. well I will continue to prove people wrong :) . good luck on your journey!

Me too. I almost dropped the phone when I got the call. I was so impatient I was rushing the nurse for my blood work. I need everything like yesterday. Lol. My fiancé thinks I'm overworking myself because I'm looking at nursing totes, reading forums, looking for shoes, and even read I should invest in a laser printer because the cartridges will last over a 1000 pages. I just invested alot of money into this prgram and I'm just itching to make sure I do what I can to be ahead or stay afloat of the game. I don't have any medical background and it's pretty new to me so that's probably another reason it's scary but I really believe i can do it and it's something I've been wanting to do for awhile but I've always been scared because I had to work and now that I'm fortunate enough to have my fiancé help me I can go through with this full time. And I'm super nerdy excited!!! Lol

Your fiancé is right. Calm down. I know how exciting it is to get into nursing school, but you will burn out on it first semester. Relax. Laser printers? You are going overboard. The goal is to make it through nursing school and get on the job. If you don't balance things, you will burn out. Then all of your hard work was for nothing.

Study appropriately in school, but don't make it your life. I think that is why we have so many unhappy nurses in their first year of work. They never shut their brains off.

Want to be that great nurse and have a rewarding career? Have a life outside of nursing. I'm serious about that.

BTW, when I found out I got into nursing school, I left for a two week vacation two days after. I bought my scrubs the week class started. I bought my books that week as well. I graduated with honors. Without a laser printer, without a rolling backpack, without a lot of things.

I had a great stethoscope, one pair of clinical scrubs, a regular backpack. I took notes by hand, and I dealt with a normal printer. My life was fine. My grades were fine. I know have a great job in a great critical care unit.

I'm in the same boat as ljaimes23, when I got my letter I was so impatient and did all of the same things minus the laser printer lol. I read everything I could, ordered a couple of "manly" scrub sets, bought three pairs of "cool" sneakers to avoid ugly nursing shoes, and everything else that I needed. After I got all of that out of my system I felt better and prepared and have been able to calm down. I have my orientation next Wednesday and know that I'll be able to start this accelerated BSN program with all of the butterflies already worked out. I'm super nerdy excited too!!!

Congrats! NurseGirl......Ha! Yeah I had actually went that saturday, the week of acceptance and tried on my scrubs at the store because I read it takes a few days to a few weeks. My fiance told me to just measure and order online I said uh no. I can't return them if their already embroidered. So we made a trip to the scrub store. I was actually surprised at the sizes. I am normally a small or medium and the scrub pants were X-Large and the shirt was Large. They are designed way too small. So I had to order out another pair of pants and a shirt. I ordered those and to be embroidered on 6/25/2016 and I am still waiting for them! I called and they said they were not in yet and I should anticipate them shortly and I would be called. I am on the same boat, I really do want to try to begin the program overprepared than underprepared. I'm sure there are people out there that catch on quick and get things done on their own time. I just got my stethoscope and finishing my requirements. I go to orientation next Friday. I have a girl in my current Chem class who is also in my nursing program. We're both excited! LOL
