I'm sure there are a bunch of us in this boat. I'm done with my pre-reqs and looking to begin my ADN program at the local community college in the fall. In my case I'mlooking at taking evening classes (and I'm thankful that the community college in my county offers an evening/weekend program).

I'll tell y'all a bit about myself, but I'd also enjoy hearing from all of you as well.

I'm one of those older students (age 44). I'd say I'm looking at a second career, but honestly it's more like a fifth or sixth. Right now I work as a piano tuner/technician and I also do some online work in the educational testing field for a company I won't mention but which most of you have probably dealt with at some point.

I know many folks here probably can say that they have always wanted to go into nursing. That isn't really the case with me. I was just looking for a field that looked fairly stable and that had a clear way of getting in and had opportunity for advancement. Many times I had thought that nursing was a good career option for students who weren't sure what they wanted to do, so I finally just took my own advice.

I have a wife and three kids who depend on me for income, so I'll be trying to work full time through nursing school. I know it will be tough, but I feel ready and excited. I've always enjoyed learning and try to stay ahead of whatever classes I'm in. I've gotten much better at time management as I've gotten older.

I should hear about official acceptance at the beginning of March.

What about everyone else?

Same here. I'm still completing my pre-reqs but have already applied to my school's program. The deadline for the applications are February 7th .. so I'm assuming maybe I will hear something around March, maybe April (but hopefully sooner).

I'm going into nursing because it's something I've always saw myself doing. Maybe it's my "calling", maybe it's not, but I've been interested in it since I was a young child so I decided to stick with it. I'm also going into it because there are a wide variety of specialties in nursing. You don't have to limit yourself to one thing and stick to it forever. Also there is a great opportunity for advancement. Perfect for me.

I'm also applying now for fall 2014 ADN programs & I'm stressed beyond belief! For me, I believe it's a calling, but I think I would be happy in most medical careers. I'm getting so excited, as well as nervous! I cant wait for the day I become a RN.

I am also hoping to start my program this year , though it starts this summer and it's a BSN program. I turned my application in January 3 (they aren't due until the 31st) so I'm hoping to hear back by March or April!! Nursing is something I've always wanted to do and I'm so excited my dream has almost come true !! God bless all of yall as well!

I'm hoping to begin in the fall as well. I have only applied to one school, a BSN program, so hopefully I will get in. I have done the best I possibly could.

Like the original poster, this really isn't as much of a calling for me. I have always been interested in the medical field. I wanted to become a physician for as long as I can remember, but with all the recent healthcare changes and the fact that I don't want to give up my 20s, I have chose to pursue nursing. Yes I know it is entirely different but I love the job versatility, and the fact that nurses care for the whole patient rather than the one part that is wrong. I'm very excited!

I hope everyone gets into their school of choice :)

I applied to my colleges program last September. I recently found out that I will be in the fall 2014 program at my school. I was hoping to start this spring but there is a wait list so fall it is for me.

I hear you. I have an old friend who is a doctor. He's told me more than once that if you want to actually practice medicine you shouldn't become a doctor. I have a customer who is a urologist. He tells me he spends 10-15 minutes on paperwork for every 5 minutes he spends with patients.
