Good jobs for nursing students?

Nursing Students General Students

i am currently in my 2nd semester of NS. I currently work as a preschool teacher. My semesters are split into 2 sessions. Session 2 starts next week. I will be quitting my job next week, as i cannot work and go to school. My schedule will not allow it :(.

what are some good jobs for nursing students? my problem is that my schedule is always changing. In fact, it changes every 8 weeks!

i know there are per diem jobs for CNAs, and phlebotomy, but i am not trained in either of those.

How about a medical office? I know many look for full-time positions, but perhaps they will offer your part-time or per diem? If you can, work in the hospital. Get any job that's available (janitorial, food preparation, transportation). It's not nursing related, but when you do graduate from your program, you can apply to the hospital as a nurse. You may have an advantage over other candidates, since you would already be an employee from that hospital. Also, you may have the opportunity to network.

I'd check out job listings for the hospitals near you. They might have openings for sitters or monitor techs as PRN positions. There could also be full or part time jobs for things like surgical tech or receptionist at one of the provider's offices. I know near where I live, the mental health technicians do not need to have their CNA until 6 months or so into the job, so you have time to get it. If you live in a state where you can challenge for your CNA, it'd be as simple as taking a two to four day course, studying, and taking the skills and written tests. Then obviously finding a place that is willing to train you a bit more.

As long as you have your first semester finished and one clinical rotation, the hospitals should be able to consider you for a tech position. You don't really need training or a cert for that since you should have already learned that job in your first semester. Just apply and see what happens.
