Hi all,

Was wondering where is all the financial resources available to help ease the nursing shortage??

Cheers.

No shortage of scholarships here (Bethlehem PA). I am starting an A.A.S. RN program in January.

I had my choice of 3 hospital scholarships. All full tuition, books, fees. I chose a Magnet Hospital http://www.lvh.org LVH is also a level 1 trauma center with a Burn Unit, NICU, and several other types of ICU. They also have a 23 week Critical Care internship (and med/surg and OR internships) for GN's. I lean toward critical care, but won't really know what I want to pursue until I get in the thick of things. I chose this hospital because it seemed like the most supportive environment for new nurses.

Have you checked with financial aid at your school. Have you researched hospitals in your area?

suemom2kay,

Thanks for your reply, if you don't mind, how much of your tuition are they covering?

Please re-read my post. I hit enter by accident (2x) mid-sentance. :D

Oops, one more thing... (can you tell I'm sick (GI thing) and tired???).

I have to work there for 1 year in exchange for the scholarship. The internship also requires a 1 year commitment. I wonder if my "sentence" will be concurrent or what's that other word (same meaning as serially - but that is so not a word)...

Night night!

wow! good for you!

so how did you find out that they would pay for tuition? Did your financial aid office inform you of this?

I went to an open house yesterday and asked this question, but was told that I would have to contact the hospitals on my own.

Was wondering if there was a method to this madness

Different hospitals do it differently. Of the 3 scholarships I could choose from 2 were offered through my school's financial aid office. The 3rd hospital I would have had to have applied through them (but they were a bit far from me).

Anyway, I found out who to contact at my school from LVH (I was pursuing working there as a CNA - another long story). The woman at LVH told me if I was turned down for the scholarship from my school to contact her and they would get me a scholarship through them.

The contact name of the financial aid lady was given out to everyone at orientation. But by then, my paperwork was already started for my scholarship. So I feel fortunate. Don't know if it helped me or not.

The scholarship is such a blessing because we don't know how we would afford my tuition, etc. otherwise.
