:groupwelcome:

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Amy and Spill -- It was nice to finally meet both of you! Amy, I agree :) It was nice to be able to have a conversation that didn't involve typing! :D I'm glad I managed to find you with my super sleuth detective skills -- lol

Spill -- Aww, how wonderful :) (Too bad I didn't see those BEFORE the meeting ;) ) As for the iPod thing, I don't know yet. For some reason, every time I try to make any changes to the file (like making it a file type that might be supported by an iPod) it crashes my computer. I'll keep playing around with it, but I'm not sure if I can get it to work.

Yang -- (or do you like Yin better? :D ) Tooooooooooooo funny! I was wondering if you'd really do it ;) I still cannot believe he dropped already. How did he miss that it was going to take a lot of time? Sheesh.

Specializes in ER.

I submitted a request for change, but they didn't even tell me it was done...I just got an e-mail addressed Dear Yin Yang: a new message blah blah. I don't know how he could be unaware of the time investment. Kanora pulled no punches about it. Either he's dense as a rock, or was way over confident in what his abilities might be. Either way, it's bad karma to waste a nursing school position like he did. I'm not so sure those nachos were a good idea yesterday. I've been ill since 1 am!

Sorry to hear that :( I hope you feel better soon!

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

Hey first semester NLC students, I have seen you today standing in line next to the restrooms. I assume it was about the drug test and nothing more. :clown: By the way, if anyone remembers a girl walking around in a "beautiful" guacamole green shirt, that was me.

Katie

Katie,

I THINK I remember seeing you today when we were in the hall for drug test but not 100% sure. Did you try to enter the restroom and the lady told you it was closed? Spill and I went first. She made a big deal about us having to go practice our skills so we got to go before everyone else. It probably made others mad but it worked - good thinking Spill! Every time I see someone I always wonder if its you since I know you are around but have no idea what you look like.

No, it wasn't me. I saw that 50 people were waiting there so I didn't go.

When is your first skills check off?

Katie

First skills check off is Tuesday of next week and Test 1 is Wednesday of next week. I was really scared at first that I wouldn't get all the steps of vital signs but I have been practicing with Spill, Jaxia, and my "lab partner" so I do it pretty well now and have confidence. I just need to work on my narrative note since I really haven't been focusing on it. I don't feel well at all about physical assessment but then again we just started and Ms. J says it's one of the most difficult things. This brings up a question that a couple of us had. Are the skill check off grades just a part of what makes up the final grade for the 1460 class or do they make up the total grade?

Part of it...the other part is your clinical grade.

Remember, with the assessment, say things even if it doesn't apply. ie....Ask about his cough, if he doesn't have one, tell him if he develops a cough make sure to let you know if it's productive, and what color the sputum is. (Not exact words, but incorporate it the way you want to do it.) :)

Good luck!!

We have lecture next to you on Wednesdays. I usually sit in third row, first column, close to the door. From the corridor you can peep in if you want, the instructor won't see you because she is facing us during lecture. :monkeydance:

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

So do we wind up with 3 grades at the end of the semester, or only two?

Wowsers, I'm exhausted. I started a new job today in downtown Fort Worth. That's a LOT of driving. And, I still need to do my reading for tomorrow.

Jaxia,

We end up with 3 grades - 1 for lecture, 1 for pre-clinical / clinical, and 1 for 1119 skills (starts in week 4) lab. For MY class each skill check off for pre-clincal counts 10% and there are 3 so they only account for 30% of total grade.

How is new job? Did you get the $$ straight with them? Too bad those books on CD that came in your box won't read out loud to you...would be nice on that long drive.
