Duty Shoes for Nursing School

Hello Everyone,

I begin nursing school at Long Beach City College in the Spring and I am searching for a good pair of nursing shoes. Does anyone have a particular brand or shoe they recommend?

These are our requirements: "Clogs and canvas athletic shoes are not satisfactory duty shoes and are not permitted when in uniform. Duty shoes must have enclosed heels and toes and be made of white leather. White leather tennis shoes with white soles and no color adornments or laces may be worn."

I have heard of the brand Dansko, but wouldn't they fall into the clog category? Thank you all so much for your help!

It's a good idea to get names of shoes people like, but you'll really have to try them on and see what you think. There are Danskos that aren't open in the back, so I imagine those would be fine. I have one pair of Timberland Renova that I really like, and a pair of New Balance work shoes that are ok.

I am definitely planning on trying a couple different styles and brands. I see that Timberland and Dansko are priced on the higher end. Would you say it is well worth the price? I really want a shoe that helps with foot and back pain. Thank you so much for your help :)

Danskos used to be good, but they aren't any more. Try Sanitas instead--they cost less than Dansko, and are a much better shoe (they were once the same company, but Dankso moved production to China).

FWIW, some people don't like clogs at all. Unfortunately, shoes are a very personal choice. A shoe that I love, you may hate--and vice versa. If there is a uniform store near you, you might go there and try some on before you decide what to purchase, especially if you are purchasing online.

Some of my coworkers swear by Allegras, but they are too wide for my narrow feet.

And yes, they most likely mean clogs with an open back--a closed heel clog should be fine. That's what I wear at work and what I bought for my clinicals.

I like the Skechers workwear line, they fit the bill and are cheaper :) Danskos have very firm soles and seem crazy uncomfortable to me.
