does anyone attend stonybrook???

I am a student thinking of transfering to stonybrook. Im just scared that when i transfer i wont be able to handle it. I am currently attending bmcc and the gpa requirements is a bit high. I have mostly A's and B's but in my school you practically wont get in unless u have a 4.0.:crying2: Im feeling so discouraged. I am aware that stonybrook require calculus which makes me a bit nervous because of all rumors of how hard it is. I was also wondering does anyone know what an NLN entrance exam would consists of and does stonybrook require it???

I don't know anything about nursing school at Stony Brook, but I have both a BA and MA from Stony Brook in other subjects and lived there from 9/80 - 6/86, mostly on campus, the last year and a half off campus. I think it's an excellent school in general, with a very diverse community and lots of activities and very bright, interesting people to meet. I'm not a social butterfly, but I made quite a few very close friends there and enjoyed the faculty and my studies very much. There are even some single dorm rooms to be had in what I believe was called "Stage V" (I may have the number wrong, but no other dorm is called Stage anything) which was a dorm that had a culturally diverse group of students.

I spent a little time over at the medical center working as a model for the new medical students who were learning how to do gynecological exams under the instruction of a woman ob/gyn (it was the best paying job I could get at the time, $20/hr). I also had to go the the ER once as did a friend of mine and got excellent treatment there and at the university outpatient health service.

Best of luck to you in your decision. I don't think you can go wrong there. And try not to be discouraged. There are so many nursing schools out there. You can get into at least one of them, and probably so many more. And remember, all it takes is just one.

Oh, by the way, I grew up in Queens, too.

Thanks for the reply...wow what a small world ehh? where did u grow up in queens??? As far as sooo many schools with nursing programs you are definitely right but its like i feel so discouraged because students pay tuition start taking courses then to find out there are so many cracks in the wall and you were told different by the office of admissions. Sorry for wailing out my problems everybody but im just sooo Fed UP:crying2:

No need to apologize for "wailing", that is what we're all here for, to support each other.

It is a small world. I grew up Forest Hills, by the way, but had friends in and went to elementary and junior high in other parts of Queens, then spent high school and some time working in Manhattan, also lived in Brooklyn for a year or so. Stony Brook was about 5 years total.

You are not alone. There are so many of us out here along the way of applying, thinking of applying, waiting for letters back from, etc. re: nursing school.

I am waiting for a response from a nursing school. Everyone I know on the thread I've been on on this website who has applied to the school has gotten their letters back (and it turns out they've all been acceptances) in this past week, and my mail usually takes a little longer because of where I live now, so I'm just waiting for the mailman and feeling frustrated. It'll probably come Monday. Someone in Portland, OR got hers yesterday, so I thought surely I'd get mine today (I'm in Northern California, but I live in the boonies so my mail takes longer than someone who lives right in a city).

Anyway, please keep on sharing your thoughts, feelings and milestones along the way. The comraderie is so important!

a goodluck dance for a mailcall from your mailman!...lol.. i reside in Astoria not too far from forest hills. im going to send out my app for stonybrook on monday...i know im a lil late but it was a spur of the moment thing irealized there is no need for me to stick around and do nothing instead ill use the time instead and dedicate to my bsn..im just crossing my fingers so i get accepted to stonybrook....and everything will hopefully fall into place...
