Dismissal Can I go back after 2 Failures?

Hi everyone,

I am currently a student completing my B.S. in Biology. About 4 years ago, I was essentially dismissed from my B.S. program in nursing after being given a failure for my independent practicum by the director of the program. I accidentally had my pills mixed up for my patient, and inadvertently gave him the wrong pills. I immediately reported the situation to my preceptor. The med error was reported, however, even though I reported it and apologized, etc and took responsibility for my mistake -- I was failed.

Prior to that -- I was failed in clinical after I was already passed (did an extra voluntary day so I could learn more!) and I was failed for not properly disconnecting the I.V. line from the bard pump and not capping it.

So - to make a long story short -- can I still follow my passion for becoming a nurse?

Do my two failures on my transcript prevent me from becoming a nurse?

I have been working as a nursing assistant for the past 6 years -- and know the realities of nursing. I am more confident than I was when I had started that nursing program, plus my B.S. in Biology should help show I am capable.

I was thinking to pursue the LPN since it would be a good way to show another nursing program I am serious -- and want to show I do want to be in the profession to eventually become an RN. I think the LPN would be the best way to build up my credibility since the two failures on my transcript look so bad.

Should I go talk to the directors of these schools?

Or am I permanently banned from becoming a nurse due to these F's on my transcript????

Any advice is appreciated.
