Carrington in ABQ?

I currently reside in Albuquerque and am interested in nursing school. I am confused as to which college I should attend. CNM is the local community college that I've heard good things about. The only downfall is that getting into the Nursing classes can be hell!! I was also considering Carrington College which is more geared towards being a technical school from what I gathered. Many threads state that Carrington isn't accredited and it would be a waste of time to attend but my friend who graduated from there a year ago says that's not true. She said that it doesn't matter where you go to nursing school, that as long as I obtain my licensure I'll be fine because that's what hiring officials are looking for. Does anyone have any advice or guidance with what school would be better for me to attend??

A quick search states that Carrington College has conditional approval from the New Mexico Board of Nursing.. This means that graduates are eligible to sit the NCLEX and become licensed in the state.

The program has no national accreditation such as CCNE or ACEN.. and this would only potentially cause some problems if you were to want to continue your nursing education BSN and/or higher level... You may find that some Universities may not accept the credits..

If you are interested in continuing your education -- really spend some time to check your options and make sure that the credits you may take at Carrington are accepted by Universities that you may be interested in.

Best of luck.

Oh I definitely plan on pursuing higher education! Thanks so much for the reply, CNM it is :)
