Anyone else really nervous?

Nursing Students General Students

I am an "older" student, 43, and begin actual nursing class in two weeks. I returned to school in Sept 09 and I have finished ALL my prereqs and will hopefully have my BSN in four more semesters of nursing classes only. I have wanted this for a LONG time and I have worked really hard on the prereqs, but now I am getting really scared that I can't do it. Anyone else?

Specializes in ER.

Me too! I am a 33 year old mother of three and I am terrified. I start actual classes on Jan 20th 2011. I think we can do it. I felt like once we were done with pre-reqs it would be a walk in the park. Now I am a nervous wreck. I know we can do it! I wish you luck. We are that much closer to our dreams.

Good luck!!!! :)

I felt the same way when I started. I'm 26 with a 3 yr old daughter. I started the actual nursing program in August 2010.

The hardest part is getting used to the schedule and the amount of work required. The work itself it particularly difficult, it's the amount that can be daunting.

I'm not trying to burst any bubbles, but I wouldn't say it's a "walk in the park", but after you get used to it, it's not as difficult as you fear either. At first, it will seem really difficult and you might ask yourself, "Why did I want to put myself through this?", then it will get easier. When clinicals start, it will get harder again. My biggest advice to to get organized about which assignments are due and stay on top of everything! Once you get behind, it's hard to catch up again!

I am 41 and a single mom in nursing school! It is hard and stressful, but just keep your eye on the prize! There have been so many times that I have wanted to quit, but I just look at my 3 kids and keep going!:dancgrp:

I agree with Bella, just have to grind through it, keep your eye on the prize. Works for many aspects in life =) Also, that dancing thing is amazing lol.

I'm 58 and starting in two weeks. No I'm not nervous. Yet.

I'm a CNA and a Hermione Grainger-type. (Nose in a book all the time.)

I've dealt with enough of the nitty-gritty part of patient care as a CNA so not too much scares me. (Actually, I enjoy being a CNA.) And I'm a total Nerd with a captial "N" when it comes to studying.

Just keep your eyes on the prize and try to enjoy the fact that you are starting a brand new chapter in life. Isn't that great?

Totally new chapter! Dear daughter number one in sophomore year of college and dear daughter number two will graduate high school next year. We will actually have one semester with all three of us in college! Baby girl will finish her freshman semester as I graduate (God willing:D )

By the time I get my license I will have the "empty nest." I have spent twenty years raising my girls (and loving it) but life does go on when they get lives of their own!

Thanks so much for the support ladies!

You are going to be a great nurse, texasmum!

Oh yes, I feel the same way. I have 3 kids and my first day is tommorow! Im so worried about not being able to do it all , especially since my husband is not used to lifting a finger. The pre-req's were so much work for me, I had to work so hard to get my A's and I was only part time. No idea how I am going to pull this off, I have a feeling its going to be one year of Hell.

I feel the same way and to hear that I'm not the only one makes me feel better! I'm 35 and so nervous about starting tomorrow. I worked really hard to get all the pre-reqs completed and thought this was really what I wanted, but now I am scared to death. I know I just need to keep going and I'll be happy when I'm finished but it's hard not to second guess myself.
