Anatomy/physiology refresher course

hi!

i was accepted into a nursing program for the upcoming fall semester and i plan on using the summer to try and prepare myself for the upcoming year. i took my anatomy and physiology prereq's online and i am nervous that they have not fully prepared me for what i need to know. i have been trying to study these subjects on my own but i was wondering if anyone has some good websites or knows of online refresher courses in these areas that could help me out. i would really appreciate any information that anyone can provide...also if anyone has any other tips that would help me prepare for the transition into nursing school it would help me out a ton!!! thanks!!!

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the A&P refresher. In my RN course, they go over each system again briefly anyway before they teach you pathophysiology. You might find some of the info on this site interesting, though. http://pennhealth.com/health_info/animationplayer/

If I were you, I'd spend my time learning medical terminology and normal lab values. I like the following books, and use them quite a lot:

Mosby's Diagnostic and Laboratory Test Reference

Miller-Keane Encyclopedia and Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, & Allied Health

ok, now you've got me nervous......what do you mean by "normal lab values?"

Normal lab values:

Na+ (136 - 145)

K+ (3.5 - 5.0)

Hemoglobin (12 - 16 female, 14 - 18 male)

Hematocrit (37 - 47% female, 42 - 52% male)

WBCs (5,000 - 10,000)

Glucose (70 - 110)

BUN (10 - 20)

etc....

yikes, I don't remember covering those values! better get out my books and old notes and get to reading!

Those things aren't things that are covered in Anatomy and Physiology, just things that you might want to learn out of a book before the program starts, 2b. :)

(Skip the first 27 minutes or so of the first lecture since it's just an intro to the class for "live" students--about grading and such.) Not sure how in-depth it is. But it's free :D

I have not had a chance to go over the websites that you guys have provided but I appreciate you guys for posting them oh so much!!! It will definately give me a starting point for my studing!

Natania- I was wondering if they would go over the systems before we went indepth with the patho...so thanks for for posting that!! And I will definately be taking out my old med term books!

i wouldn't worry too much about anatomy. i would spend some time reviewing physiology because it ties right in with patho and pharm. i have a physio review guide that i really like -- it's clear and concise -- just the facts, ma'am brs physiology by costanzo. pay particular attention to the renal system and electrolyte/water balance, the autonomic nervous system, and the endocrine system.

i had very little exposure to medical terminology prior to starting my accelerated program this semester and it hasn't seemed to be an issue at all. i pick it up as i go along.

the one thing that i wish i'd done before starting nursing school was invest some time in getting a head-start on pharmacology. i did great in the class but would've done better (meaning less time) if i'd used my pre-program time to better advantage. a book that i've found invaluable during pharmacology (and even useful in patho) and would've been a real help to get started is lippincott's illustrated review -- pharmacology

I dont start NS til August but if you are worried about A&P this is the site I used an awful lot. http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/esp/2002_general/Esp/default.htm

It has practice quizzes and a lot of different exercises if you nose around a bit. I had A&P professor from HE77 and this site is our book's publishers site. In case the link doesn't work it is McGraw Hill, Saladin A&P. Google works too
