Ambulatory nursing

Hey all,

Im currently a senior in a BSN program in the bay area, graduating spring 2016. I would love any advice from those of you who succeeded in landing a newgrad program/job within 12months of graduating. Are there new grad programs in ambulatory care? Nursing school prepares us mostly for hospital nursing but I wanted to know what is out there regarding prenatal clinics or fertility clinics. Particularly those two areas are of interest. Are these types of position for new grads? Where in California would be a probable area to find these opportunities for newbies? I tried search engines like Indeed and these opportunities seem scarce compared to inpatient. I'm just very interested, thanks!

Congratulations on your accomplishment! It's exciting to be so close to graduation, right??I can't speak to your specific area, but most ambulatory treatment settings employ very few RNs. Staff are mostly LV/PNs and MAs. Large multi-specialty clinics would be your best bet, as they would be more likely to have RN jobs. Best of luck to you as you launch your new career.

HouTx, thank you for your response! That makes a little more sense why I didn't see many job opportunities for RNs in clinic settings. I can always consider ambulatory care down the line, but since I'll be doing my senior preceptorship in-patient (most likely labor and delivery) I think I'll follow the more hospital/acute care route first.
