ADVICE! Fulltime Nursing student and mother

I am joining this listserv as part of a requirement for my health Informatics class. I am currently a full time student/mother of four/ and I work. School by no means has been easy and I find it hard to find the time to study and work and take care of my girls. I do have an amazing supportive boyfriend without whom I would never have found the strength to go back to school. Was hoping to find some nurses on here who have done what I am doing and are bow out there doing what the love. Advice on studying techniques, balancing it all and getting a successful education!

I did my first BS, grad school, and BSN as a parent. For the first two, I was a single parent with full custody and working full time. Time management is very important. If you haven't already given up activities that don't produce deliverables ( homework, papers, happy kids ), that's a good place to start. Take an honest inventory of how much time you spend doing different things, and ask yourself if what they produce is worth the time spent. Typical time vs productivity items with a low benefit cost ratio are social media, TV, socializing, and so on, but everyone has different activities they "waste time" on. Breaks are important, but you may need to time them and make sure breaks involve activities that reenergize you, and/or accomplish the "must do" nonschool activities. Always have a way to work on school things when you have free time wherever you are. Take time at the beginning and end of every day to plan and do an inventory of what you've accomplished, what needs to be accomplished, and when. Commit to a task management system.

Time management is big! This was the cause of my demise in the last semester. Support network is always helpful, also something I had a lack of! I have nothing else to add as the previous poster did a great job summing it up! :)
