A new career after age 50

Hello,

I'm interested in pursuing a career in nursing and thinking of signing up with a career college. Any advice on the best rout to go? I'm 50 and I've been a caregiver to my 94 year old grandfather for the last 7 years. I hope to build on my experience with Alzheimer's and geriatric care as well as hospice care.

Hi! Welcome to all nurses! The route I decided to go with similar goal to yours was getting my adn-rn in nursing at my community college, and then working as a registered nurse while I get my bsn online. It took a year of pre-requisites first, (although I didn't have to do as many as I did- only chemistry and math were actually necessary at my school) and then applied to the nursing school part. I just finished my first semester, and have 3 to go. If you are interested, sign up for your prerequisites as soon as possible. They can make the difference in how long it takes you to complete your training. I wrote an article about my prerequisite experience, which took a full year longer than I thought. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer! Best wishes to you!
