A good day at school

I am such a complainer, so I figured I'd post about the good days.

Today in lab we learned how to do IM, SQ, & ID injections using a dummy & a pillow to inject into. It was fun drawing up saline & so forth. The hardest part was the IM because of the Z technique & aspirating required more manual dexterity.

Then I went to my doctor for my 2nd Hepatitis B shot. I swear I handled the exact same needle he used on me... a 21 gauge, 1.5 inch needle atop a 3 cc syringe. He didn't seem impressed by my enthusiasm, but that is okay. It was fun comparing his technique with the textbook technique. Very different, but until I have an RN license & a steady, I better stick with the textbook.

I really like learning the practical skills of nursing.

It's a good feeling to "play along" with the health professionals and know what they're doing, isn't it? :)
