Hello Everyone,

I am so happy I found you all.

I am VERY interested in going to Nursing School, for a long time. But, being in the Marriage I was in; it was almost impossible.

Now I am on my own I can spread my wings.

I am Mom to a 14 month old Son, I plan to relocate from LA to possibly TX or Buffalo NY and I want to begin Nursing School.

My dilemma is that all I have is a GED, will they accept me? I see some entrance Exams that I do not even know about. Is it best that I do some classes before I enroll or can I do them while I go to school?

If any of you got a later start into going to Nursing School - PLEASE share your experiences with me.

Sincerely Thankful...

Cassy

There is no prototypical nurse. I went to school with some ladies that most of my classmates had written off for a variety of reasons, but essentially, they didn't approve of the person's social status, or what they knew about the person's background. The thing is that those factors didn't seem to affect which of my fellow graduates succeeded in nursing. Some were really sweet and overflowing with compassion, came from great middle-class families, drove the right cars. Others looked kinda rough, hung out with bikers, maybe had more (or less) dental work, some were even on (oh the shame!!) public assistance (not my opinion, but I heard it enough). The rough one there, yep, she was the DON of the nicest, most prestigious nursing home in our city within 3 years of graduation. A lot of the more "socially acceptable" nurses had figured out they weren't cut out for the work.

I never had to reference my "GED" after initial community college until I applied for graduate school and even then, the program that asked for it didn't make my final cut. Once you get a couple of college courses under your belt proving you can do college work, few will care.
