Why is it called a HAT?

This is a very silly question, I know - but it is burning in my mind. :)

That little plastic pot that we put in the toilet to measure urine is called a hat - does anybody know why?

Isn't there some old and sarcastic expression that says, "Go piss in your hat." I think it is disrespectfully to ask an older PT, or anyone, to piss in a hat. Plus, since the Disposable Urine Collection Pan is in a semi-circular shape in order to read the cc's, no one could wear it unless their head was a semi-circle. I'm sorry :-(

:D supposedly, upside down ( if you, as we do, have the type with the wings so it hangs in the toilet), it resembles the nuns habit , or "hat" of sister bertrille,(sally field), of the flying nun fame...guess that dates me , doesn't it.?

my husband, retired uscg, which is a part of the armed services that is rarely if ever properly recognized, offers that the bathroom is referred to as the " head", because that is where you are usually heading when not actively working or sleeping....
