Study Tips for Med/Surg Certification Exam

Nurses General Nursing

Since the ANA has recently begun allowing those of us without BSN's to sit for certification, I'm planning on taking the October 2000 exam. I'd much appreciate any suggestions anyone could pass on to me (and others) related to studying for and passing the exam. Thank you in advance!

I took the med/surg clinical specialist exam several years ago. I used the AMSN (Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses) Core Curriculum for Med/Surg. Nursing. You can contact them at 609-256-2323. They also have a web site. They also offer two day review courses. It helps to study with someone. - question each other back and forth. It helps if the other person has expertise in a different med/surg area. (Check to see if there is a chapter of AMSN in your area - many members have taken the test and can help. Good Luck with your exam.

Hi nursetalk!

Thank you so much for your reply to my post and for the good wishes! I'll try contacting AMSN next week & start looking for a study partner as you suggested. Thanks again for all the info!

I received a booklet from the ANCC Board Certification. It clearly states that the basic eligibility requirements are a BSN except for the Modular Certification which will accept a Core Certificate. I just don't understand. Please explain. My goal is to sit for the Mursing Case Management exam. Could you possibly e-mail me @ [email protected]

By the way, I am a 3 year diploma RN. Thank you for any info.....
