Refresher Courses?

I graduated from an ADN program in 1993 at the age of 40. I then worked for a little while in a nursing home and then went into Home Health nursing for about a year. I was then offered an office position as a Asst. Supervisor of a small office of RN's and SW's. I stayed in that position the next 6 years, which brings me to the present time. I am in the process of moving to a different city and took a part time position with an Ins. Co. as a telepone triage nurse. Man do I feel inadaquate. It really made me take a look at all the skills and nursing knowledge I lost in the last 6 years. We work with guidelines that prompt questions and rationales. So far I like it but my confidence level is sooo low. I would really like to refresh my knowledge and I have been reading a lot since I took this job, but I would be interested in knowing if refresher courses are offered for people that have their degrees already. I feel like I need to take the whole nursing program over again. If anyone has any suggestions for me I would really appreciate your input. This transition if very difficult for me. Please help.

You can try your local school of nursing. Sometimes they'll let you in to practice assessment skills, etc. in their skills lab.

Also, your state board of nursing may be able

to help you find refresher courses available; some states require this if someone has been on inactive status or has allowed his/her license to expire.
