Naloxone for septic shock?

Anyone familiar with the use of narcan for septic shock? I had a situation recently where narcan was ordered in such a case and I discovered that it was indicated for use in septic shock. I am curious to know the rationale behind this, please enlighten me!

Op, my sympathies. From your description, it sounds as if your hospital is indeed swamped. I don't see what right your DON had to "squash" the order for ICU; initially, I feared that she might have been playing hospital politics, but it could be that her hands really were tied. I think this has been very traumatic for you, but you did EVERYTHING YOU COULD to advocate for your patient. Unfortunately, it is not in our power to save everyone :)

I commend the MD for doing everything he could for his patient under difficult circumstances, and especially that he clearly listened to you.

Oh, BTW Gila, it's never been necessary for us to pull equipment out of our ICU colleagues' behinds. We just pull it out of the spare equipment store. Much less painful :D
