injured on the job-need advice

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I injured my back at work in august. I have been off work due to severe pain since oct. and i'm scheduled for surgery later this month. My surgeon recommends not returning to icu or any other form of bedside nursing. I need advice / opinions on hiring an attorney. Also, suggestions on nursing careers that would be better suited for for someone with an injured back. I have an associates degree and many years of experience, the past two of them in icu. Look forward to hearing from nursing friends.

thanks,

ERIN>>>>will you be my case manager please??????Pretty please?lol.Erin ...it is so incredibly easy to see you love your job..and TRY to really help your claimants.I dont know why...but I can just sense it from your posts.I can tell you love your job, are compassionate and really try.You are probably the reason your company has not been sued many a time. But unfortunately some of us are not so lucky to have a case manager such as you. When you are in pain........and no one seems to be listening....eventually you just grow tired of asking by yourself and HAVE to seek an attorney. When you are in pain it is all you can do to muster the stamina to make it thru the day........and when you feel you hit brick walls in easing your pain and attaining resolution to your injury and attorney is needed.......sadly its true........some case managers are not as wonderful as you.I can tell you are really caring and compassionate .

Thanks TNN..

I do love my job and it is a balancing act between the worker, attys (on some files), the employer and the adjustor..then of course you have MDs, surgeons and therapists..

I have been responsible for closing down some bogus claims which makes me feel good by the same token, I have gotten surgeries moved forward..gently talked to the claimant about changing MDs when theirs is obviously in over their head. I have worked with employers to design light duty positions that are reasonable for the employee...all in all it is a great job and 99% of my claimants contact me quite frequently with updates, requests for help etc..When someone needs something (within reason..we are not talking about swimming with the Dolphins here..true story) I get it authed asap and get the ball rolling be it DME or meds.... I am not perfect any stretch..but yes, I would love to be your case manager ;)
