Distance Education

Nurses General Nursing

I have a BS in Respiratory Therapy and have recently considered getting a degree in nursing. Because I have two small children, I am not able to go back to school at this time. Can anyone give me some information on nursing degrees that are obtained through distance education, such as Regents College? Also, are there any other distance programs available out there from which you can obtain a nursing degree?

Thank You,

I don't believe that you would be able to use a distance program to become a nurse. Those programs generally are for nurses continuing their education. You would have to go to a nursing school, do the clinicals. It would be pretty much full time. Have you considered a Diploma or ADN program? You could do those in 2 years. Then if you wanted could go back for a BSN if you wanted. Depending on what you want to do in nursing you might not even need a degree, especially given you already have one.

You are definitely eligible to get your nursing degree via Regents. The url for the website is http://www.regents.edu/018.htm

Several of my colleagues were previously RTTs or Lab techs who decided to go this route.

There are numerous resources available to help if you choose this route. Check out http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/8971/
