CNL to PH.D?

I am new to nursing, and I have some questions about becoming a nurse educator.

First, a little bit about me. I've always been interested in health care, particularly in serving poor/underserved areas. I spent some time after college working at a university in China, and I feel like I want to return to that school as a nursing professor (they have a good nursing department there). I considered becoming a doctor for a time, but the schooling is too long/expensive, and I think I'd much rather teach anyways.

So, I'm trying to see what would be the quickest way to be able to start teaching at that university. I'm currently looking into the UMd direct entry CNL program, and am wondering if it is possible to go into a Ph.D program right after I get the CNL, or if I would need to get other degrees/certification in between.

So basically, my main question is how the CNL lends itself to pursuing further studies. I hear mixed reports of the CNL and I've read up on the discussions on the forums, but would the CNL hinder my chances of getting into Ph.D programs in the future?
