Anyone from Syracuse NY?

I was just wondering if anyone was from Syracuse NY and could give me some insight as to where to apply and how to find a job? I'm new to the area and would appreciate any advice. Thanks:)

I live in Watertown just 1.5 hours north of Syracuse. They have 4 major hospitals in one area--Crouse Irving, St. Joseph's, University Hospital and the VA. I've heard that the best to work at would have to be Crouse or University. Welcome to the area..Go Orangemen!

I'm new to Syracuse too. Your post is from last July--where did you end up working? I started at Crouse--had a bad experience there...moved on to LTC which is boring me to death and I am losing all my skills. :crying2:

OK, here goes. Upstate pays the most, but you the only tolerable places to work are the units. Crouse is a hole, I do not recommend at all. I hear wonderful things about St. Joe's but have never personally worked there. Community General Hospital is a very nice place to work, the people are friendly, the facility is clean, the parking is free and there is an abundance of it, good benefits, and competitive pay. There is also a one day surgery center and St. Camillus if you are into rehab nursing. Good Luck!

I work @ St. Joseph's Hospital. I suggest you try there. It's also a Magnet hospital and NO unions. Our standards of care are very high. I can't imagine working in any other area hospital. W e also don't have mandatory overtime like some of the other locals do. Pt safety is critical to this hospital and overtime is only offered, not required. LuLu
