Is the economy getting any better? Are new grad jobs still looking grim?

I desire a career of nursing very much and I am 17 about to start college this summer. Being a critical care nurse is my dream. But with the ecomony and all these new graduate nurses that cannot find jobs...I'm scared that I might be wasting the next 4 years of my life for my nursing bachelors if i won't ever be able to get into the field without experience because of this economy. I'm wondering, is their any proof or statistics showing that the economy is actually getting better? Or is it getting worse? I'm wondering if I should pursue a different career that I will actually get a job in...as unhappy as it would make me :crying2:

Hi, I am impressed and amazed that someone just 17 already feels so passionate and sure of their career choice!

I think if it is your passion and dream that you should go for it. You have a lot going for you; you are very young, already are focused, and are attending a 4 year university. Realistically almost every career these days is not wide open. There will always be sick people and our population is aging.

If you were 40 years old and considering to go for a 2 year ADN degree I might say you might want to rethink it. But because you are so young and going for a BSN I say go for it. There are so many options in nursing and you will be able to advance in your career since you are getting a BS.

How long do you think it will be until nurses are able to find work again? Considering how many nurses are actually graduating now?
