Fastest BSN at FIU

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello,

I'm a high school senior and I've applied for the pre-nursing program at FIU; I'm more than sure I'll get in with my grades and everything. By the time I've graduated I'll have taken 8 AP exams and therefore accumulated 30-something undergrad credits. I was wondering, if I finish my core curriculum general education credits early (of course including those having to do with the nursing major) could I possibly get a BSN earlier than the 4 standard years? I'm afraid that even when I finish the general education credits I HAVE to wait to start the nursing program only when they start accepting new applicants, which could be MONTHS after I'm done. Is there any way I could get a head start on the upper-level nursing courses once I'm done with the basic credits?

I'd really prefer people familiar with the FIU system to answer, rather than try to talk me into looking at other universities; Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer.

Hi,

I graduated from FIU but in 06' so I have no exact, up-to-date information for you but since no one's replied I figured I'd tell you what I experienced.

You almost answered your own question...you may have to wait (I applied for spring but didn't get in till fall). I didn't have as much AP credits as you but I did have some that applied towards my nursing major (chem, English comp ad lit, psych) so that did help shave off a couple semesters

When I went there you couldn't apply until you were close to completing ALL the preqrequistes and then admission would be based on the last classes you were finishing up.

I am not sure if it is different but what I suggest you do is talk to the admissions people at FIU and at the nursing program.

Be prepared to have a lot of patience. Unless they've had some major change they were a pain in the butt to deal with when I went there.

Good luck :)
