Does USF Upper Div. program require electives?

U.S.A. Florida

For the USF(U. of South Florida) Upper Division program, do they require that we take electives such as Humanities, American History or do they mainly focus on courses such as English, Math, Science, Psychology, Nutrion, Human Growth & Development? Would really appreciate answers from those who have applied and/or got accepted to this university?

To apply for the upper division at USF one needs to have an AA degree with a discipline in science and incorporated in that are 2 humanity classes, American history class, speech, and the classes you stated.

Medic6758- Thank you for your response! Do we need to actually have an AA degree or can we just take the classes and have them transferred to USF. I am planning on applying to the Summer term of 2016 and also wanted to know, do I need to have the Humanities,AMH, and speech done by the application deadline or can they be completed in the spring semester of 2016 while waiting to start the actual term in the Summer of 2016?(That is if I even get accepted of course.) It seems a little confusing because on the website for the Upper Division Program it states that applicants will be considered if the following courses:English I&II, Statistics, Nutrition, Bio/L, Anatomy I&II, Human Growth & Dev., Psychology, Microbiology/L, are completed by the deadline. Humanities, AMH, & speech class were not listed.

Medic6758- Another thing, it's stated on their website that we should apply to USF first and send our transcripts and be accepted then apply to the nursing program. Do we send our transcripts when we apply to the program as well or just when we apply to USF as an undergraduate student? Because the last bit of my pre-reqs courses won't be completed until the end of Fall 2015 in December right before the application for the Nursing program at USF firsts opens up. Which is in January to March I believe. So would I re-send them once I've completed all my courses?

Hello, when it comes to applying for the nursing program, one has to first be accepted into the USF itself. To be accepted as a transfer student you need to have an AA degree; if you have not completed your AA degree you need to have reasonable SAT scores. Once accepted, before you can apply to the College of Nursing you must have all your classes completed, there is no going around this. For example, if you are in the middle of your final classes and the application period closes before you complete the requires course work, your application will automatically be rejected.

As for the type of classes that are needed, humanities are needed because they fall under Florida's Gordon Rule of Writing requirement. Now, if you have other courses that satisfy that requirement, you are good. Another thing to consider, there is also a language requirement that must be met before you enter and before you graduate the college that must be satisfied.

You do not necessarily need an AMH or speech, you just need something that will satisfy those requirements. As I previous stated, speech falls under the Gordon Rule of Writing, so you will need something to replace it.

I hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Everything at USF is done electronically, once you get accepted into USF, the College of Nursing will have access to your transcripts, there is no way to send them to the nursing department. The nursing application itself is very short, it is done online, and takes about 10 minutes or less to complete.

Once you get accepted into USF itself, you will have access to something called "Degree works" it is here that you will be able to see which of your classes were accepted, or if you need any courses. It will also provide you a list of classes if you still require any or if you want to change your major.

Medic6758-Oh ok! Thanks for the clarification! :)
