Hi To Everyone, Well After Rn I Want To Specialize In Something, Like Anesthesiologist For Sure, Are The Courses Very Long? To Get My Rn Bachelor Is 4 Years Plus Specialization But I Dont Want To Be Studying My Whole Life, So Are The Courses Long Or Short? Thank You Have A Wonderful Day.

Specializes in ED.

Whether you become an RN first through an ADN program and go on to get your Bachelor's later, or if you are going straight for a BSN, you will have to have about 2 years of working experience as an RN first in order to attend school to be a Nurse Anesthetist. Its basically a Master's level degree, so its another 2-3 yrs after a BSN, so its going to take a little while.

Good luck.

Yes, it will take a while. 2 years ADN, or 4 years bachelors, than 3 years for your masters. And not to mention working to get a little expeirence first. Alsor remember if you go into anesthestist school you usually can't work through the program, so start saving money now:)

Hi -

I've been researching Master's programs for Nursing and the Anesthetist one is one that I'll be considering, if I make it that far (I'm just starting out). Most programs require at least 1 year of CC experience before they will let you apply for the program and the current working experience average is 5 - 7 years as an RN.

From everything I understand about nursing so far is that it is a field where you are constantly learning/studying in. With the way healthcare is changing and the new procedures and offerings provided it appears this is a lifetime learning career. (Something that really excites me - I love learning).

Best Wishes.

Also -

This is my current plan to completing my initial nursing education -- If anyone has any comments/suggestions/guidance on it - I'd sure appreciate the assistance :). (I posted this under another thread but reposting here since it's a little newer in responses... Still learning about this forum!)

-Currently Working on Prereqs to program

-Take EMT certification course to provide ability to work in a field that will help round out education (many of the area hospitals will hire you as an EMT - Also recommended by several nurses I've talked to.)

-Attend FCCJ for AS in Nursing (much cheaper than UNF)

-Sit for RN exam

-Find RN job

-Attend RN - BSN bridge program at UNF

(it's one night a week and finishes in a year, with virtually no competition to get in the program (UNF Admissions couselors provided that gem :) ))

-Work Fulltime as RN while pursuing my BSN

(since program is only 1 day/night a week should be easy to schedule work shift around)

-Complete any pre-reqs necessary for Master's program

(either concurrently with BSN or the semester after depending on workload/schedule)

-Apply for Master's program

(hopefully will either have enough money saved up to survive or because I'll have a year + in working as an RN, employer will let me work Part time to complete my education. )

Fingers crossed all goes as planned!

Thanks!

Hi GatorFan1545! It seems as though you have everything all planned out. Best wishes to you.

Gatorfan,

I would Sllllooooowwww it down just a bit. If only life worked that easily that we could just plan things out years and years and years in advance. You should stick to one thing at a time. Concentrate on one thing and get it done first before you go much further. Life is full of obstacles and at least in my experience very little has ever worked out as I had planned.

Good luck

Hi SouthernAsh,

Thank you for your reply. I'm enough of a realist to understand that life doesn't always work out as you plan but I'm still optomistic enough to hope for the best :). This is really a "big picture" plan. Having it all go perfectly over the span of 6 - 7 years would undoubtedly be a miracle, but I need the big picture to motivate myself as I travel this journey. As each of the different phases begins, I plan out the details I need to accomplish them and work through them until they are complete. This way I know that I won't miss any deadlines and hopefully won't make any silly mistakes that could set me back a year or two unintentionally (especially considering how long this journey will already be)!

I appreciate your response and will remember to not lose site of the details :).

All the best.
