Textbooks and teachers aside...how's it really going?

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hello everyone,

I have posted in other areas of the bb but I am so glad to see we finally have our own section and that it is working for more than subjects surrounding the NCLEX. ;)

So here are my questions:

1) How do you feel about nursing now that it is no longer "Black and white?"

2) Do you feel you were prepared by nursing school? Not just in content but in reality?

3) Do you work with a mentor/preceptor beyond orientation and it is really helping?

4) Do you feel independent, able to handle most of the shift without a lot of research?

5) Do you go home satisfied you picked nursing as your career?

With these questions circulating, I'm just curious as to other new grads' responses. I have been out on the floor for 6 months. I am currently transfering to another area of nursing other than med-surg for reasons listed above and also others I will hopefully be able to discuss and research further in the future.

Thanks for the opportunity to know I'm not alone as a new grad... :)

Alright then,

I guess no one wants to talk candidly about their new careers.

I'll go somewhere else.

I think the reason for no response is because this is the student forum and no one has really started their career yet. At least speaking for myself, if I knew the answers to the questions I could respond. I am still taking my pre-reqs. Sorry I could not be much help!

Give it a little time, Jacel. The goings on this particular board are a little slow right now. Many posts that require thinking and long response aren't getting much play. I attribute it to your target audience being totally overwhelmed right now.

Good luck.
