Finally Landed an ER SPOT

Specialties Emergency

Hey everyone! After 2 years in rehab/ltc I have landed an ER job (which is my dream). Is there anything I can do to prepare myself. I had clinicals in the ER/ICU and got to see alot of awesome things, however we shipped most of our critical cases. It was a small rural ER and I will now be at a major level 2 trauma center. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been an ER nurse at a level one for a year. Get you a dysrythmia EKG book, and I suggest critical care for nurses book. I actually just bought those today, and even though as I glanced at them in the bookstore, I thought to myself WOW, this makes things click. Also icufaqs.com is a great website too.

Do learn your rhythms as was suggested. Other than that, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The EDs with which I am familiar would never, ever, start you out with Traumas. At least not as the primary nurse. That is something you build up to. You will have plenty to worry about with non-trauma critical patients as it is; codes, STEMIs, tripoding pts, etc. I mean this in the best way...I would not work anywhere other than the ED if they offered me more money. :):)
