Considering switching from hemo to PD nursing

I recently made the switch. There is life after Hemo. I like it very much, lots of teaching, clinic environment with

regular hours, our call is mostly phone management as is much of the patient care. They come in once a month for labs which you review & manage, then to see the doctor. Otherwise after initial training they call when they have a problem, ie peritonitis, etc to manage.

It seems to be a great choice for aging HD nurses that need to give up the physically demanding hemo life.

I made the switch. I did not give up hemo because of the high demand. I switched because I wanted my weekends and holidays off. I actually am doing home hemo, which I LOVE. PD is a lot of case management. A lot of teaching, and some clinical skills thrown in to boot. It generally seems a happier place for patients and staff. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses!!

This position would be for both home hemo and PD...I have done acute and chronic hemo for over 20+ years and I don't know if I see myself going back into training - not for the patients, but for myself!!!

I know that with the bundling, this is going to be the up and growing way for dialysis. I am still trying to decide - thanks again!
