I used a bladder scan machine and I always try to get a cross section of the bladder to see how much urine for post residual. MD order usually will say, straight cath for pvr of >300 cc's or sometimes an order for straight cath for pvr of >200 cc's. Well, please aren't you always suppose to get a pic of the bladder at least on the bladder scan: someone showed me the other day a bladder scan printout of 000 ml with no pic on the printout. Anyways, she's end stage renal and the staff nurse said to me, "NO urine, she's end stage renal and no picture because there isn't any urine in there" and not being familiar with this dumb machine, I insisted there must be a pic, but she continued to argue so I was always wondering there is always residual, the more reason as to why there should be either 003 or 056 ml's showing up on the bladder scan machine. Please someone share with me their wisdom on this matter? Thanks, a whole bunch, because my knowledge would say okay but where is the pic of the bladder. Either the machine was on low battery or I don't know how she did it because she never transferred the res on the bed and the res was sitting in a w/c. I don't know what she did?
