Acute program call pay

Hello all,

I am curious how other acute programs handle call. How often are you on call? Is there more than one nurse on-call at a time? How are you paid for being on-call? Thanks for the input.

our clinic has just begun acutes. I am on call with 2 other nurses and we each take 1 week at a time. We are on call Monday thru Thursdays from 6pm to 6am and Friday night until Monday am @ 6am. Our manager fields the calls during the day. We make $1.50/hour. If you get called in, the time is straight pay unless it exceeds 40 hours, then it is 1 1/2 pay. Where in Wisconsin are you? We are in the Fox Valley area. Our sister clinic in Greenbay is paid alittle different as I am told "the culture is different there"

How does this compare with your area?

Thank you for your reply!

I am in Superior, working in Duluth, MN. There are 6 RN's rotating call in our unit. We rotate daily (6pm-7am) Monday- Friday and then one person is on call Saturday 6pm-Monday 7am) We are also paid straight time if called in unless we are over 40/week. However, if we are called during the night there is a 1.00/hr shift differential. We are paid 4.50/ hr while on call. It is interesting to hear the phrase, "the culture is different" because we are frequently told the same thing. I appreciate your input.

Just curious, how often do you get called in after hours and especially at night (after midnight). What dialysis machine do you use?. You get 4.50 an hour for carrying the pager?. I cannot believe the differences in amts. I feel like we are grossly underpaid at 1.50/ hour.

We use Fresenius K machines. I find I am called in about 50% of the time I am on call (middle of the night). I agree that 1.50/ hr is very low. The inconvienence of being on call is worth much more. Of course, we all feel that 4.50/ hr is still low. There seems to be very little incentive for being on-call. Perhaps time and a half for hours worked while on-call would help, I don't know what the solution would be.

Hi!

Just curious, what company do you work for?

I work in Austin, Texas acute program for NNA. We are required to do call once/week and a weekend every seven weeks. We are paid $100/call day plus our normal hourly pay if we are called in to work. Which is almost gauranteed here.

Our acute nurses provide call from 7PM to 7AM on M-W-F nights as weill as all day and night T-TH-S-Sun. The staff average about 6-8 call days per month. We are paided $7.50/hour when on call and time and a half when called in. (minimum 2 hour call paid)

I work in a hospital based hemo unit and am on call 10 shifts per month. We only have 3 nurses who take call. We are open M-W-F from 6 am til 6 pm, so are on call all the hours in between. We get called in maybe 25 % of the time, but it goes much higher and lower, you never know. We get paid $1.75 per hour while carrying the pager, and paid 1 1/2x/hr if called in, plus 1/2 hour driving time.
