Is it possible to shadow in ICU?

I've been a Medical Surgical nurse for 2 years now I feel like I need something more challenging such as ICU or ER. I want to shadow in both areas. Is that possible?

Yes, if you do it at your own facility you'll just need to ask the directors of those depts and schedule it. If you want to do it at another facility, contact the unit directors and ask them if you can shadow. I've done it many times just so I can get a feel for the dept vibe and ask staff questions about how they like it there, etc. Some places require you to apply first, some don't. You'll always have to sign a HIPPA form.
