I have a huge decision to make. I have been offered Cali up north prison opp as an LVN. Pay is great, up in a condo paid. Which is great, but my concern is my experience...I have done hospice and thats it thus far. I have a huge backbone, very strong, however, very empathetic. I would love to have more advice from a lumni.

Please help a fellow nurse. I have to call them tomorrow and give them my yes or no with my registry. Its a huge decision as I am leaving my family to advance my career for a short time and I am at about 98% that I am going. I can do whatever is thrown my way. I am a rookie nurse so to speak, I beleive that I am gifted... I would love to hear more about the prisons with advise from the lumni's in nursing in the prisons. I completely agree that you don't get involved and do your job within your scope and not do the oh poor inmate thing.... with in mind the manipulation and boredom...I think what I really need to know is what am I to expect... stab wounds...obviously sick inmates, inmates who were on meds before they were imprisoned, how much do we deal with the Dr. and to what respect... as an LVN what would my responsibilities be?

I definately think we learn more from our respective nurse community than the registry's, they kind of just throw you in, just like I was thrown into hospice...Please help.

Hello, I am in the same situation of trying to decide whether or not to accept a correctional position. Did you accept yours? If so..how did it go?
