Hello all!

I'm 37 years old and have several years experience as a caregiver in Spokane, Wa, (my mother ran an AFH back in 1995), and I just got back into the workforce after being out of it due to health reasons for awhile. I just got a new job, starting in March, for a six-client AFH and I currently work on the weekends from Friday at 8pm til Monday at 8a.m. It was from Friday 7pm til Monday 9pm when I first started but the owner cut our hours down to six a day. So, technically I get there at 8pm on Friday and the other caregiver goes home and I go to bed, keeping an ear open for alarms through the night of course. I start my regular shift at 8a.m Saturday morning and it ends at 2:00pm but then my next shift starts from 2:00pm til 8:00pm when I go to bed and then start my next shift on Sunday from 8:00am til 2:00pm to 8:00pm then bed and I wait for the other caregiver to relieve me at 8:00am and I go home for the rest of the week and come back the next Friday at 8pm. I get paid only for the hours I am up and working; so 24 hours for the weekend. But I do get a bonus of $25 flat rate for every night I sleep-over, which is pretty good. The woman I work for never actually showed me in writing what my pay was going to be but told me on the first day we met for the interview, and she brought it up not me, that she would start me out at $9.17 an hour plus $25 for the overnight shifts. That sounded reasonable to me, especially since I was just starting back to work in general and in her facility and can still recall getting a set salary of $600 a month for 24/7 caregiving in an AFH I used to live in as well back in the 90s! Anyway, I guess my question to you all is...does this sound reasonable, too? I don't want to get too personal or anything but I am just curious as to what other caregivers make today? Oh, I know that it makes a difference if one is a CNA or an NA-R, etc. I am a NA-R (Nursing Assistant-Registered) I guess now we are suppose to be called Long Term Care Workers (LTCW) or something like that. Don't even get me started on all that 1163 crap! I'm so confused! But that's for another post! LOL!

Sincerely,

~Ami
