PPEC position

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I hold a nursing certificate from a vocational school and am awaiting to take boards again. In the mean time, I work as a CNA at a hospital. The hospital no longer hires LPN's so I am looking into transferring somewhere that would hire me as a CNA and later on possibly transition to the LPN role. I found the perfect position (PPEC center) within the same hospital that can offer what I am looking for but they are having doubts because I have no child care experience :(. I know they want someone with experience and theres so much that I can offer but how do I put it into words?

Do you have any personal experience with a special needs child such as a family member or friend? Or any personal experience with children at all, maybe with younger siblings at some point? If so, I would suggest you draw from your personal relationships to tell them what you could carry over professionally. If this does not apply, I would give professional examples that could be considered similar. Perhaps when you started in your current unit you didn't have experience with that particular specialty or population, but you learn quickly and adapted and completed your training sooner than anticipated or within three months you were training others. Find life experiences, both personal and professional,

that showcase why they should take a chance on you. Good luck!

I do! I currently lead the children's ministry, Ive been engaging with kids for about 10 years. But they want someone with special needs care experience. Thanks for pointing me to the right direction though!...thank you sooo much for responding.

Your very welcome. When I was in a position to hire those are the things I would consider when deciding on someone without specific experience. Also, discuss any specific clinical skills that you are comfortable with that willl cross over. Many of the kiddos in PPEC will have g-tubes or j-tubes, etc. Draw from any education you received in school about developmental delays, etc. Sell yourself to them. Offer to come and shadow someone for the day so they can see you interact there and hopefully see that you would be a good fit.

Hopefully, someone else will chime in with their perspective as well.

I hope it all works out!
