North Carolina CNAs?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hey everyone! I'm about to take my CA red cross CNA exam. I might be moving though in the next year to North Carolina (or VA...). Can anyone tell me about the titles in NC for nurse assistants? I see there are 2 levels of CNAs??? Can you tell me what makes you the highest level CNA and what you need to get there?

Thanks!

Michelle

there is cna 1 and cna 2. Mostly it just means there are different levels of stuff you can do. cna 1 is mostly like adl's. The cna to can change some dressing and do other stuff.

NC offers CNA1 and CNA2. CNA2 can perform all the skills a CNA1 can do while having additional skills such as: oxygen therapy, trach care, fecal impaction, wound care, and etc. :)

Thanks!! So do you need to take additional classes to become a CNA2?

Yes CNA 2 is an additional class, which if I remember correctly requires about 3 months work as a CNA 1 to get into. Also, remember that NC does not offer reciprocity with any other state, so once you get here you will have to either challenge the test or take the CNA 1 class. Good luck :)

I know... I'll probably want to challenge the test:). All this work I'm doing for a ca cna course... Would be a shame to have to do it again for a different state!

Although at least if I get hired as a cna in ca soon I'll have that experience...
