Considering becoming a CMA - questions!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Ok. I live in Texas in the DFW area. I have been doing a lot of research into the CMA program through the accredited programs. It's supposed to be a field that will expand greatly very soon. I also see a lot of job postings on indeed. But I have been hearing contradictory thoughts on it on forums. I'm looking into getting into the healthcare field. I have a BA degree in counseling that I received back in 2000, but that doesn't get me many options and is why I'm looking for a change.

Thoughts? Is a CMA job really that hard to find in my area?

Ok. I will consider all that has been said. I'll be honest and say that I'm scared to take all of the pre reqs and then not get accepted. I really worry about that - it seriously kept me up all night last night thinking about it. Lol! My fear of failure causes me to fail. Blah! Ok. I will at least talk to someone in the BSN department to see what they think and what I would need to do. The other thing is that I will have to wait a year to get started as you have to apply in February for the fall.

I am a NCMA ( nationally certified medical assistant) and I love it. If you want to get a feel for the health care field that is a great place to start. Through my experience so far I would say go for it!! It doesn't hurt to start out somewhere :) plus I love being able to work under a D.O and having a wide range of responsibilities is rewarding; whether its administering immunization s, drawing blood, or even performing EKGs and Spirometry tests. Even if you end up doing bigger and better things in health care, the MA knowledge will always be there and is a good thing to have.
