HELP! Re: Loans

I applied for my FAFSA. What further steps must I take to obtain money for the cost of living, etc? I will be losing about $2,300/month. My husband only makes $450/week. I wanted to avoid working at all during the program. If I must, I will work every other weekend. My financial aid department told me not to worry about it. Who are they kidding? I'm willing to borrow til I'm blue in the face, but who or where should I borrow from? There must be secondary loans out there for graduate students who are supporting families. Any advice? Leslie.

This information was given to me by the financial aid office. There are basically two types of alternative loans....those that cannot exceed the school's cost of attendance and those that can exceed cost of attendance.

Alternative Loans - Cannot exceed Cost of Attendance:

Educaid

Chase

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo Graduate Loan

Wells Fargo MedCAP Loan

Key Bank

Citibank

Nellie Mae

PNC Bank

Alternative Loans - Can exceed Cost of Attendance

Bank One -Education One Graduate/Professional Education

Thank you. Your response is greatly appreciated. Leslie.

I shopped around for my lender and easy found one that did not deduct the usual 3% of the loan in fees. I went with access group. This should put another $300 or so in your pocket each semester.

BTW, does anyone know if student loans are taxable. I have been told by my classmates that they are, but this just seems wrong. It is borrowed money after all!!

No, they are not taxable.

Alright Smiling_ru. The more I thought about it, the more I thought that it just couldn't be true.
